Annotation is a performative video poem that started with reflection on a text by French writer Charles Péguy (1873 – 1914). In Oeuvres Posthumes, Péguy says God maybe likes more those who suffer the truth more than those who speak the truth. Péguy wrote that history has long arms and no arms. In the digital age, history is written and rewritten. As we access all of the histories, the truth is sometimes reshuffled.

A summer parade opening the Calgary Stampede celebrations, July 6, 2001 is presented in triplicate. The visuals provide a focus for reflection on events that only weeks later marked changed levels of social innocence. Missing Parade Notes was assembled and edited into a short video documenting highlights of the parade. Slow motion and colour treatment were added to age the footage. Originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia, pluri-­disciplinary artist and writer Valerie LeBlanc has worked in Canada, the United States, Europe, and Australia. Her creations travel between poetry, performance, visual and written theory. Valerie LeBlanc has been creating video poetry since the mid 1980’s, and is the creator of the MediaPackBoard (MPB), portable screening / performance device. In the fall of 2012, she published her play The Raft, through Basic Bruegel Editions.
