While preparing for the festival season, a small town in the south of France is surprised to receive a rising star in their midst. La Dauphine was created during a residency at A.I.R. Vallauris on the Côte dAzur. The video features local residents and the buzz surrounding the Cannes Film Festival.

Une petite localité dans le sud de la France se prépare pour la saison des festivals et les habitants se trouvent surpris daccueillir une étoile montante dans leur ville.

La Dauphine: The creature rises from the sea, 2006
Character enactments for the video of the same name. During a residency, I worked with Daniel Dugas and a community of residents, in Vallauris, France to create the myth of La Dauphine, a creature from the sea. I stood in for many of the costumed appearances for the main character. The photographs were shown at the A.I.R. Vallauris Gallery during the residency. These photographs show the persona I took on.

About Valerie LeBlanc

Originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia, pluri-­disciplinary artist and writer Valerie LeBlanc has worked in Canada, the United States, Europe, and Australia. Her creations travel between poetry, performance, visual and written theory. Valerie LeBlanc has been creating video poetry since the mid 1980’s, and is the creator of the MediaPackBoard (MPB), portable screening / performance device. In the fall of 2012, she published her play The Raft, through Basic Bruegel Editions.
